Ironically, as a Christian substitute teacher I experienced anti-Semitism inside LAUSD because a lot of students, and even a few teachers, thought I was Jewish because for a while I had a beard, even though I also wore a big cross ✝️ around my neck.
The ignorance & animosity was alarming in some cases. Numerous times Mexican students would repeatedly say "Are you Jewish, are you Jewish?"
Clearly, their parents had instilled their own prejudices in their children. The children themselves of course didn't even really know what it means to be Jewish.
But then there were even a few adult teachers who barely disguised their anti-Semitism as well, even after I told him I'm not Jewish. It didn't make sense.
It got to the point where it was so predictable in some cases at some schools where I would say "I'm not Jewish, but even if I was it shouldn't make a difference..."
